The readings which make up this volume have been selected with the object of providing a background to the study of economic growth in its historical context. They cover a wide rand of issues and arguments and serve to illustrate the variety and complexity of past patterns of development.
The readings have been organized on a broadly chronological basis. They deal in turn with the experiences of various countries, starting with the early economic advances in England and Western Europe, and concluding with analyses of the development of certain countries which have yet to undergo an industrial revolution. |
