Preface: “The purpose of the study was threefold. In the first place an attempt was made to contribute to the theory of economic growth (…). Secondly, the study was to provide the students of South East Asia in general, and of Thailand in particular, with a comprehensive description and analysis of the financial markets in a open, dualistic economy of which Thailand is a prime example. The book contains material not ordinarily available in published form and, in addition, presents data hitherto not available at all. While the information on the life insurance or provident funds may have its applicability limited to Thailand, that on the structure of unorganized financial markets in urban areas should be of broader interest.
Last but not least, the study endeavors to provided the development planner un the field with specific and pragmatic suggestions for the improvement of the performance of financial intermediaries in Thailand.” |
