ESCAP organized a subregional seminar on FDI promotion policy in the economies of North and Central Asia. The seminar aimed to bring to the attention of the participating countries the experience of selected countries in the ESCAP region in promoting FDI and draw out identify those lessons which have relevant for enhancing the inflows of foreign direct investment in the economies in transition.
The present publication contains seven papers from that seminar. Four papers deal with the experiences of India, Malaysia, the Republic of Korea and Singapore in developing FDI policies and related institution building. These are followed by three papers which outline the status of FDI policy and the investment climate in Armenia, Kyrgyzstan and the Russian Federation. The discussions at the seminar enabled the participants to formulate policy recommendations for consideration by the Governments of the economies in transition in their efforts to attract foreign direct investment. The recommendations adopted by the seminar form the last chapter ofthis publication. |
