Résumé : |
Back cover: "East Asia has been the scene of remarkable economic growth, much of it due to successful economic policies. What role have economists and other policy researchers played in this growth? Authority and Academic Scribblers responds to the great interest in these countries and in the relationship between academia and politics by presenting a view of the nuts and bolts of economic policy making in eight East Asian countries,. The success of these East Asian economies is the result of policies that encouraged low inflation, stable exchange rates, and an outward rather than an inward orientation. In these countries, and throughout the world, bureaucrats or elected officials are responsible for implementing economic policies.
But where do these policies originate? In East Asia, research has made a major contribution to economic growth by informing the policy-making process within bureaucracies and in political arenas, as well as the public debate. The authors' discussions shed light on the types of policies most conducive to growth and the types of governmental and nongovernmental organizations most effective at conceiving and implementing such policies." |
