In 1973, at the invitation of the British Broadcasting Company, Professor John Kenneth Galbraith began the preparation of a twelve part television series on the history of economic thought. When it was broadcast in the United States in the summer of 1977 under the title “The age of uncertainty”, it was financed in part by taxpayers’ funds and was broadcast on public television. For those reasons the American producers – aware the Professor Galbraith’s viewpoint is a controversial one – agreed to include dissenting commentaries by leading scholar and public figures. This booklet contains the text of those commentaries along with suggested additional reading prepared by each of the contributors.
