Résumé : | Foreword extract: "Taiwan is a case of successful economic development. More important for the purpose of this study, overall economic development in Taiwan has been accompanied by development of a strong agricultural sector, which has experienced rapid growth in production through technological change. Thus Taiwan presents an ideal case for viewing intersectoral capital flows as they relate to agricultural development. In addition, the Taiwan economy has made varying use of several devices for transferring capital from the agricultural to the nonagricultural sector, thereby providing opportunity to observe the varying play of these different devices. Most important, accurate data are available for the period 1911-1960 which allow construction of a detailed dataset of social income accounts. For the period 1895-1911, the data are less complete but still sufficient to allow analysis of the earliest period of accelerated economic development in Taiwan." |
